Marian O. Reeves, age 85, of 940 Savage Farm Drive, passed away the afternoon of January 14, 2007, at the Cayuga Medical Center. Born on July 8, 1921 in South Dayton, NY, she was a daughter of Alfred K. and Marjorie B. (Buell) Reeves.
Following graduation from Ithaca High School, Marian attended Ithaca College, graduating in 1944 with a BS degree in physical education. In 1954 she earned an MS degree in physical education from Ithaca College.
Marian was a physical education teacher with the Johnson City Central School District in Johnson City, NY, retiring in 1976. Shortly after retiring, she moved to Ithaca where she spent many years enjoying her home on the lake. As a former physical education teacher, Marian was fond of sports, particularly swimming. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Ithaca and enjoyed her involvement in several organizations including Cayuga Chimes Women's Barbershop Chorus, Endwell Community Chorus, and Girl Scouts. She was past president of the Residents' Association of Kendal at Ithaca and the Triple Cities Business & Professional Women's Association. Marian also spent many enjoyable hours with her hand work, creating keepsakes that will be forever treasured by family and friends.
In addition to her parents, Marian was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Reeves Cope and a brother, Alfred K. Reeves, Jr. She is survived by one brother, P. Kennedy (Carol) Reeves of Ithaca; one nephew, David (Marja) Cope of Toronto, Canada; three nieces, Sarah (Craig) Putnam of Orford, NH, Beth (David) McDonald of Wichita, KS, and Hannah (Andreas) Richter of Genoa, NY and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
In keeping with Marian's wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Memorial
Service will be held Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 2:00pm in the auditorium at Kendal at Ithaca, Ithaca, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who wish to make a contribution in Marian's memory to kindly consider The Arthritis Foundation, 3300 Monroe Ave, Rochester, NY 14618, The American Heart Association, 2113 Chili Avenue, Rochester, NY 14624, or the charity of one's choice.
