Pauline L. Ditzell

d. February 11, 2013

Pauline Ditzell, 88, of Trumansburg, NY went to be with her Lord and Saviour peacefully in her sleep on February 11, 2013 at Hospicare in Ithaca, NY. Pauline was born on April 7,1924 in Isom, Oklahoma, the daughter of the late Early and Mattie LaMar of Mead, OK. With her passing, she was the last of 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

The loving wife of Robert M. Ditzell, they were married on October 19th, 1945 and shared 67 joyous years together. Pauline is survived by her husband, Bob, and one daughter, Sandra (Ralph) Compton of Trumansburg. She is also survived by two precious grandchildren, Dennis (Eliana) Compton and Wendy (Todd) Mahoney. She was also blessed by five wonderful great grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Daniel, Robert (Compton), Lea and Stillman (Mahoney).

Pauline spent most of her adult life working as a Nurse’s Aide at the Cayuga Medical Center (Tompkins County Hospital) and retired after 25 years in that capacity. After retirement, with Christ as the center of her life, she was a lifelong active member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Trumansburg. It was there that she served in many capacities and became “Grandma Ditzell” to adults and children of all ages. Bob and Pauline’s greatest ministry was to spend time visiting, and encouraging, those that were hospitalized or unable to get out of their own homes.

With her vibrant and energetic personality, Pauline always enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, entertaining and for those that knew her they benefited greatly from her many gifts of love. She especially enjoyed camping, traveling, and playing board games but her most treasured time was spent with her family that she loved so dearly.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Hospicare who gave Pauline such loving and sensitive care during her final days.

There will be a memorial service held at the Calvary Baptist Church, 5 Bradley Street, Trumansburg, NY on Saturday, February 23rd, at 10:30am. There will be no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, the family would kindly like you to consider Hospicare, 172 E. King Rd, Ithaca, NY 14850 or the Calvary Baptist Church, 5 Bradley St. Trumansburg, NY 14886.
