Philip William Garrow, age 75, of 9785 Congress St. Ext., Trumansburg, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2009, in Auburn. Phil's niece, Denise Garrow and her family cared for him in the comfort of their Auburn home over the past six weeks. This mutual blessing allowed Phil the love and nurture only family could provide and Denise and her family an opportunity to grow closer to Uncle Phil.
Born in Brushton, New York on December 18, 1933, Phil was the son of Philip and Ruth (Montroy) Gorrow. He was a graduate of the Brushton High School. Phil retired from General Motors in Rochester following 27 years of dedicated service. He treasured his violin and played it with passion. Phil also enjoyed visiting the area Bluegrass Festivals.
He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Lulu Powless; three brothers, Calvin, Howard and Leland; and one sister, Hazel Patchen. Phil is survived by one brother, Thomas (Reggie) Gorrow of Prattsburg; and many nieces and nephews, including Denise Garrow and her two sons, Daniel (Jeanie) Coe and Alexander Sawaryn of Auburn.
The family will be present to receive their friends from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. A Catholic Prayer Service, also at the funeral home, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday with the Rev. John Tokaz OFM Cap. officiating. Prayers of Committal will be offered at Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg.
