TRUMANSBURG-Phylis M. Brooks, age 78, of Congress Street Extension, passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Friday, July 27, 2018. Phylis was born at home in Enfield on August 9, 1939, a daughter of the late Jared and Margaret (Holley) Rumsey. She was a graduate of Ithaca High School and had daycare in her home. Phylis retired from Trumansburg School District. She was actively and proudly involved with the Trumansburg American Legion and Trumansburg Senior Citizens.
She is survived by her sons; John (Tammy) Colbert of Genoa, Jeff Colbert of Dryden, Mike (Barb) Colbert of Danby; grandsons, Kyle & Mark, Matt & Brian, Jacob & Caleb (Taylor); siblings, Jack Rumsey, Susan (Lawrence) Carlisle, Judy Neiss, Denis (DeeAnn) Rumsey, Loreta (Linda) Rumsey-Ebert, Marlene Crockford, Bruce (Joey) Rumsey and sister in law, Elise Rumsey and a host of nieces and nephews. Phylis was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Dick" Brooks in 1987, and by her brothers, Maynard and Russell and brother in law, Robert Crockford. Phylis had many friends and touched many lives. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00pm on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street in Trumansburg. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11:00am on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, with prayers of committal at Grove Cemetery.
