Phyllis McCoy of Interlaken passed away December 4, 2015 at Cayuga Ridge Nursing Facility at the age of 93.
Phyllis was born on July 10, 1922, the daughter of the late Frederic and Julia McElroy Sr. of Williamson. She attended Ovid Central School and Ontario Business Institute in Geneva. Phyllis retired from the Seneca County Health Department after working there for over 30 years. She was a communicant of St. Francis Solanus Church in Interlaken. Known for her unfailing concern and genuine kindness toward family and friends, Phyllis often called and wrote letters which provided support and encouragement to everyone. Those who knew her well admired and enjoyed Phyllis’ spirit of independence.
Phyllis is survived by a daughter, Diane McCoy of Baltimore, MD; two sons, Steven McCoy of Ithaca and Joseph (Nancy) McCoy of Newfield; two grandsons, Jason and Joseph McCoy of Newfield; great grandson, Remington of Tennessee; sister, Donna (Steven Maser) McElroy of Portland, OR; stepsister, Barbara (Bernard) Dailey of Horseheads; a cousin, Jerome (Gail) McElroy of Webster; many nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Eleanore Brignall of Phelps. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband Myron “Mike” McCoy; brothers, Fred Jr. and David McElroy; sister, Mary McElroy; stepmother, Catherine McElroy; step brothers, Robert and Donald Seaman; and step sister, Jean Muha.
The family will be present to receive friends from 11:00am to 12:00pm on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Mass will immediately follow and be celebrated at 12:00pm on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at St. James Catholic Church, 17 Whig Street, Trumansburg.
