> Born on August 13, 1933 in Ithaca, Ray was the son of William and
> Margaret Church Poyer. He attended Trumansburg schools and joined the
> U.S. Army in 1950. Ray was stationed in France during the Korean
> Conflict, receiving an Honorable Discharge in 1954.
> Ray was a dependable friend to many people over the years. Whether he
> was on the job at Cayuga Crushed Stone in Lansing, rubbing elbows
> with fellow veteran's at the Arthur E. Bouton American Legion Post
> #770 in Trumansburg, (where he was a 40 year member), or working on a
> project at the Ithaca Moose Lodge #666, Ray never needed to be asked
> more than once for a helping hand. In recent years Ray developed many new friendships through the Spruce Row Campsite in Ithaca and Jim's RV Park in Zephyrhills. His caring nature also allowed him to be close to the many animals he brought home to be a part of the family.
> Camping and traveling were favorite pastimes for Ray. His family will
> treasure the memories made while on their many excursions throughout
> the years. Even though he gave up Stock Car driving many years ago,
> Ray's passion for racing continued as he cheered for Dale Earnhardt,
> Sr. and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. on the NASCAR circuit.
> In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his wife
> Joyce on August 12, 1997. He is survived by his companion, Shirley
> Naragon of Zephyrhills, FL; three sons, Ray, Jr. (Susie) of Howell,
> NJ, Russell of Lansing and Tim of Slaterville Springs; two daughters,
> Robin Lampman (Bob) of Slaterville Springs and Becky Kenyon (Chuck)
> of Brooktondale; one step-son, Wesley Doty of Jacksonville, FL;
> thirteen grandchildren, Jamie, Randi, Danielle, Nicholas, Nicole,
