Bernice R. Smith of 24 Elm Street, Trumansburg passed away at Hospicare on Saturday, September 21, 2002 at the age of 97.
Born in Enfield, New York on June 26, 1905, Bernice was the daughter of Charley A. and Alice B. Abel Rightmire.
Following her graduation from the Trumansburg High School, Bernice attended the Williams Business School in Ithaca. She was employed by the Williamson Ford Garage in Trumansburg before she and her husband founded the "Howard L. Smith Bottled Gas and Appliance Store" on Main Street in Trumansburg. Bernice also worked in the Graduate School of Business & Public Administration in Malott Hall at Cornell, retiring in 1965.
Bernice was proud to have joined the First Presbyterian Church of Ulysses in 1916 and had devoted countless hours to church activities over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard L. Smith on March 8, 1989. Bernice is survived by one son, Ronald L. Smith (Elaine) of Pittsford; two grandchildren, Barbara Accorso (Michael) of Rochester and Daniel S. Smith (Michelle) of Warrenton, VA and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St, Trumansburg on Tuesday, September 24, 2002 at 2:00 pm with the Rev. Jeffrey S. Kellam officiating. Interment in the Grove Cemetery will be private.
The family will be present to receive their friends, at the funeral home, on Tuesday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm.
