James R. Wilson, Sr. of 1862 Trumansburg Road, Jacksonville, NY passed away at Lakeside Nursing Home, with family by his side, on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at the age of 80.

Born on July 27, 1926 in Ithaca, James was the son of Ray J. Wilson and Bessie M. Foote Wilson. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, receiving an honorable discharge on July 27, 1945.

In 1946 James accepted a position with the National Cash Register and continued working there for 42 years, retiring in 1988. He had many activities that he liked and that kept him busy. He enjoyed camping and had many outings over the years with his family. He also enjoyed dancing, bowling, horseshoes, golf and playing cards (especially Euchre). In his earlier years he had a stock car that he worked on and raced. He enjoyed fixing things (usually with success) and this carried over into the tearing apart and fixing of many items around the home. As a life long resident of Ithaca and Trumansburg he knew numerous friends and was helpful to many running errands for others when needed. James liked watching baseball and golf on TV with a great deal of his own commentary.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Betty Newhart Wilson who died in March of 2001; one brother, Richard and two sisters, Helen Macera and Lora Rose. James is survived by one daughter, Judy Wilson (Dan Ungleich) of Trumansburg; one son, James R. Wilson, Jr. of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Sam and Jeremy Wilson and Kaylee and Jayna Ungleich and many nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Friday, December 15, 2006 from 6-8 pm at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, December 16, 2006 at 11:00 am with Rev. Michael Corriero officiating. Interment will be in Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg.
