Richard "Rick" A. Carman, of 223 Pennsylvania Ave., Trumansburg, passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Sunday, April 12, 2009, at the age of 56.
Born in Ithaca, New York on May 12, 1952, Rick was the son of George and Elsie (McMillen) Carman. In 1970, he graduated from Ithaca High School and went on to work as a mechanic at several area auto dealerships. For the past several years, Rick was a service manager at OHM Electronics in Ithaca.
Rick was actively involved in the Civil Air Patrol, Ithaca Composite Squadron where he served as a past Commander. He was a long-time and accomplished model builder and enjoyed flying his R/C airplanes in the backyard. Rick loved spending time out on the water boating, waterskiing, and parasailing. He also had a great passion for restoring and collecting cars.
Rick is survived by his wife of 32 years, Donna M. Carman; his parents, George and Elsie Carman of Zephyrhills, FL; a daughter, Kimberly (Derek) Furry of Mansfield, PA; a son, Timothy Carman of Athens, OH; two granddaughters, Ara and Nora Furry; a brother, Bill (Carla) Carman of Crystal Springs, FL; two sisters, Helen (Edward) Kellogg of Ithaca, and Juanita VanNess of Van Etten; and several nieces, nephews, and 20 cousins. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert "Robbie" Carman.
The family will be present to receive friends on Thursday, April 16, 2009 from 7-9pm at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home, on Friday, April 17, 2009 at 4:00 pm with the Reverend Peter Hopper officiating.
