Richard Meeker Lowe lifelong resident of Trumansburg passed away at Cayuga Medical Center on Friday, May 22, 2015 at the age of 85.
Dick was born in Ithaca on October 8, 1929, son of Meeker and Marian (Wright) Lowe. After graduating from Trumansburg High School he attended Cornell University before transferring to Broome Tech, where Dick played for the baseball team, pitching and winning the Championship.
Dick worked as an auto mechanic for many years, first with his father and then owning the Mobil Station in Trumansburg. His love for mechanics made him an excellent “tinkerer” and he could fix or fabricate nearly anything, including restoring several MG cars over the years. Dick established Lowe’s Soft Water in the 1970’s, owning the business until his retirement in 1985.
An avid golfer, Dick was a founding member of the Trumansburg Golf Course and served on the board for many years. Dick enjoyed completing all types of puzzles, playing the banjo, and was an elegant dancer. He loved his family and made many memories boating on Cayuga Lake.
Dick is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joanne Lowe; three children, Mitchell Richard (Liqing) Lowe, Shelley (Michael) Alfieri, and Bradley (Rachel) Lowe; and seven grandchildren, Antonia, Shiya, Vicki, Nolan, Alex, Lauren, and Ethan.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at the Trumansburg United Methodist Church, 80 East Main Street. The Funeral Service will follow at 2:00pm at the church.
