Robert Bruce Schneider of 8913 Route 96, Interlaken, passed away at home on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the age of 90.
Born in Clifton, New Jersey on October 24, 1922, Bruce was the son of the late Adolph and Olive (Leonard) Schneider. In 1942, Bruce joined the United States Coast Guard and served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon his return in 1946, he married the love of his life, Marion on June 15th. They established their first home in River Vale, NJ and following WWII, through the GI Bill, they came to Cornell University, and Bruce took a position at Duddleston Farms. While on a Sunday drive in 1950, they came upon Whispering Pines Farm in the Town of Covert, and purchased it soon afterwards. In the mid 1950’s, Bruce saw the need to start a construction and carpentry business and began building vacation homes all along the Cayuga Lake shore line. He built his current home in 1970, across the road from his farm, and in addition to construction work began installing swimming pools.
Bruce always had a passion for gardening that would start in early January by planting seeds for both vegetables and flowers in his greenhouse. Come spring, he would transplant his crops and pull out his beloved lawn mower to begin meticulously mowing his lawns. In his spare time Bruce loved following the stock market closely. His other hobbies included model railroading, stamp collecting, jigsaw puzzles, and playing dominoes with friends and family.
Bruce is survived by his children; Robert Bruce (Phyllis) Schneider Jr., of Ringwood, NJ, L. Douglas (Linda) Schneider of Ossining, NY, Doris S. (Dan) Robinson, of Jacksonville, Susan (Patricia Vorel) Schneider of Mendham, NJ and Donald G. (Teresa) Schneider of Dallas, TX; 13 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and a sister in law Lois Schneider.
