Robin L. Voorheis of 8719 Rt. 89, Interlaken (formerly of Cortland and Groton) passed away at home early Saturday morning, May 31, 2008 at the age of 40.
Born in Auburn, New York on August 4, 1967, Robin was the daughter of Harry and Barb Weber of Trumansburg. Robin graduated from the Homer High School, and with tremendous determination later in life, while juggling family and career, earned her Bachelors degree.
She worked at Wendys and Wend Central in Cortland before accepting a Teacher's Aide position at the Groton Elementary School. Robin was clearly in her element while in the classroom harboring a concern for each child like they were her own. When Robin moved from Groton to the Interlaken area seven years ago she continued dedicating herself to teaching children through her Teacher's Aide positions at Franziska Racker Center and later at South Seneca Elementary School. Placing the needs and concerns of others first was an inborn trait that was a deep part of Robin's essence. She nurtured her children, husband, family, and close friends selflessly-giving all, asking nothing in return. In 2008, Robin was awarded the Mamapalooza Motherhood Foundation's "Mother of the Year" award.
Robin had a deep affection for animals, especially horses. She also enjoyed softball, gardening, hunting, and in keeping with the family tradition, camping. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Interlaken and Tompkins Community Action.
In addition to her parents, Robin is survived by her husband, Stacy D. Voorheis; a daughter, Rachel Linda Shorts; one son, Ivan Dominic "Nicky" Shorts and step-son Derek James Voorheis; a brother, Harry C. (Jamie) Weber; four sisters, Cheryl (Rick) Reynolds, Kelly (Shawn) Voorheis-Brimhall, Heidi (Scott) Sherwood and Heather (Bill) Hughes; father-in-law, Jim (Rose) Voorheis; mother-in-law, Janet (Elwood) Hulbert; two sisters-in-law, Sheila Voorheis and Susan (Darryl) Griffin and numerous nieces and nephews. The family extends a heartfelt thank you to her many friends who have shown continued support throughout Robin's courageous battle with breast cancer. Through your loving memories Robin will continue to live.
The family will be present to receive friends on Tuesday, June 3 from 5-8 pm at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg.
Services will begin at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 4 at Christ Lutheran Church, County Road 153, Kidder's Landing, Interlaken, with the Rev. Robert Foote officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to make a contribution in Robin's memory are asked to kindly consider the education fund which has been established for Robin's children. To make a contribution to this fund, please make a check payable to: The Robin Voorheis Education Fund and mail to: Tompkins Trust Company, P.O. Box 702, Trumansburg, NY 14886.
