Rodney Herman Besemer, 75, died on December 10, 2007 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his loving family at his son Robert's home.

Born October 13, 1932 in Ithaca, NY, Rodney was a son of the late Herman D. and Carrie (Marion) Besemer. A lifetime resident of the Ithaca area, Rodney owned his own trucking business and retired in 1984 from the family owned business, Cayuga Crushed Stone. He was a member of the Masons, Fidelity Lodge #51 in Ithaca, Trumansburg Star Chapter #479 Order of the Eastern Star, and Trumansburg Senior Citizens. Rodney enjoyed bird watching, woodworking, camping, traveling, and especially gardening. He was an avid rose and vegetable gardener and always planted more than enough for the Besemer family as well as the animals around his home.

Rodney is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverly Tall Besemer; sons, Thomas of Lansing, NY, William (Susan) of Spencer, NY, and Robert (Cindy) of Ithaca, NY; daughters, Linda Duddleston of Interlaken, NY and Susan Besemer (Ed Kaulen) of Atlanta, GA; brother, Richard (Kathy) Besemer of Slaterville Springs, NY; sisters, Joyce Stout of Eustis, FL, Lois (Jim) Stout of North Port, FL, and Phyllis (Dave) Sprague of Cayuga, NY; grandchildren, Erin Duddleston of Lansing, NY, Greg (Tiana) Duddleston and Ben Duddleston of Centereach, NY, Matthew (Karen) Besemer of Lansing, NY, Toni Besemer of Ithaca, NY, Christine Besemer of Ithaca, NY, Sarah Besemer of Spencer, NY, Michael Brooks of Myrtle Beach, SC and Rodney Brooks of Atlanta, GA. Rodney is also survived by his great grandsons, Ryan and Joseph Besemer of Lansing, NY, Jack Brooks of Myrtle Beach, SC and Caleb Duddleston of Centereach, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacksonville Community United Methodist Church, Route 96, Jacksonville officiated by the Rev. Nelson Reppert.
