Roger E. Sherman, 78, of Ithaca passed away on June 6, 2018 at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
Roger was a graduate of Lansing High School where he excelled in football, basketball and baseball. Immediately after high school, Roger started working at Borg Warner and then Emerson Power Transmission where he was Facilities Maintenance Superintendent for over 43 years until his retirement. Roger was past president of the Ithaca Management Club and treasurer of Morse Chain Credit Union.
Roger enjoyed going to NASCAR races in his motorhome, playing card games, bowling, and attending Cornell basketball games, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren and watching them play sports.
Roger is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diane Weatherby Sherman; children Mark (Lee Ann) Sherman, Barbara (Tom) Policay, and Jeff Sherman as well as grandchildren Tyler (Alex), Trevor (Erin), Thomas and Taylor and great granddaughter Aurora Laine. Roger is also survived by his mother Hazel Hart, sisters Patricia (Daniel) Card, Connie Sherman (Rick May), Debbie (George) Figures and Betty (Scott) Dean and many nieces and nephews. Roger was predeceased by his father, Richard; sister Maxine (VanZile) and brother, Richard.

We would like to thank Dr. Michael Maguire, Dr. Josh Hamilton, the ICU staff and the comfort care staff at Cayuga Medical Center for the wonderful care of Roger.

The family will be present to receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00pm on Sunday, June 10, 2018 at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 5:00pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Tompkins County SPCA.
