Ronald L. Weaver of Moravia passed away at home with his family by his side on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at the age of 72.
Ron was born in Auburn on December 20, 1942, the oldest child of William and Betty (Eaton) Weaver. He joined the United States Army in 1960 and began a lifelong career that would take him around the world. He completed several tours in Vietnam, as well as being stationed in Texas, Colorado, New Jersey, and Germany. It was during his time stationed in Korea that he met and married his wife, Kim. After retiring from the Army with an honorable discharge in September of 1989, Ron moved his family back to Moravia where he worked for Modern Market until retiring in 2005.
Ron was a huge Yankees fan and was an encyclopedia of baseball knowledge. He was an avid bowler and fisherman, and spent his free time pursuing those interests. An active member of the community, Ron was a member of the Moravia VFW, coached little league baseball, and supported the local sports teams in a very vocal manor. Most of all, Ron loved his wife, children, and grandchildren and he will be deeply missed by his family.
Ron is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kim Weaver of Moravia; mother, Betty Weaver of Moravia; three children, Lori (Neale) North of Ozark, MO, Michael (Alison) Weaver of Lodi, and Barbara Weaver (Mike Fersaci) of Adams; five grandchildren, Aaron (Marilyn) Thier, Jason Thier, Breonna North, Joe Weaver, and Mya Stewart; three great grandchildren; three siblings, Ernest Weaver (Sandra Fischer), Sherry Keller (Dan Perkins), and Lawrence Weaver, all of Moravia; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, William “Bill” Weaver.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, March 29, 2015 at Moravia VFW Post 7127, Grove Street Extension, Moravia. A reception will immediately follow at the VFW. Prayers of Committal will be held at a later date at Sampson Veteran's Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks those who would like to remember Ronald to kindly consider a donation to the Moravia VFW Post 7127, PO Box 547, Moravia, NY 13118 or the Four Town First Aid Squad, PO Box 28, Moravia, NY 13118.
