Rosalie Mae Wright Yaw Mayo passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at the age of 95. Rosalie was born in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania on August 12, 1927, a daughter of the late Charles and Florence (nee Jackson, Williams) Wright.
She dedicated her life to putting others before herself, working at the Seneca Depot, Morse Chain, Broome Developmental Services (which she retired from at the age of 83), and even operating a family care home in her own residence. Spending time with family brought Rosalie great joy. She and her daughters would travel together every other year, while summers were spent having weekly picnics and winters were spent playing Euchre every Saturday night for over 40 years. She will always be remembered for her wonderful peanut butter chocolate chip cookies!
She is survived by her children, Rose (Dave) Yaw Williammee Smith, Sandra (Dale Clapper) Yaw Ward, Yolonda (Robin) Yaw Cleveland Johnson, and Ted (Elaine) Mayo; step children, Kathleen and Gregory Mayo; 17 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Cora Ann Aumick, and Elizabeth (Bill) Williammee; many nieces, nephews, and a large extended family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, J. Frederick Yaw; second husband, Richard Mayo; children, Clifford Yaw, John Yaw Jr. and Emma Lovejoy; brothers, Charles Roy, Bob, J. Earl, Jim, and Kenneth Wright; and sister, Letha Dean.
The family will be present to receive friends from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 114 Burleigh Drive, Ithaca. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 1:00pm at the church. Reception to follow at the Ulysses Historical Society at 39 South St., Trumansburg, NY.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Rose’s memory be directed to Hospice Care, 172 E. King Rd., Ithaca, NY 14850 or the Trumansburg Volunteer Fire Dept., EMS, PO Box 418, Trumansburg, NY 14886.
