Ruth Luoma Makie, of 119 E. Main St., Trumansburg, passed away at the Lakeside Nursing Home on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at the age of 89.
Born in Kooskia, Idaho on February 20, 1918, Ruth was the daughter of Jacob and Sanna Kusisto Luoma. Ruth attended the Trumansburg Central School, recieved her GED from Rochester and was an active member of the Interlaken Reformed Church. She also appreciated the friendships she developed through the Finger Lakes Finns and the Trumansburg Senior Citizens.
Ruth retired from Tompkins County Hospital in 1980 after 15 years in the Nursing Department. Following retirement, she cared for small children for 10 years and continued to nurture the flowers around her home, play cards and spend precious moments with family.
Ruth is survived by three daughters, Eleanor (William) Button of Aurora, NY, Linda Losinger of Florida and Dorothy Schlegel of Massachusetts; five grandchildren, Laurie Thomsen, Kristine (Bob) Stehler, Timothy Witte, Bonnie Knoepfler and Patricia Button; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Hess of Ithaca, NY; several nieces, including Patricia (Ted) Stevenson of Trumansburg and two cousins in Finland. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Frank Denison, Thomas and his wife, Debra Denison; three sisters, Marie Helmuth, Ellen Miller and Edna "Kay" Koste; son-in-law, Wally Losinger and grandson-in-law, Karl Thomsen.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 PM on March 8, 2008 at the Interlaken Reformed Church, officiated by the Rev. Derek Vande Slunt.
***Memorial Services have been re-scheduled and will be held on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at 1:00pm at the Interlaken Reformed Church. (Saturday services were postponed due to inclement weather conditions)***
