Ruth E. Spicer of Freeville, formerly of Trumansburg, passed away at Cayuga Medical Center surrounded by family on Friday, October 31, 2014 at the age of 80.
Ruth was born on February 11, 1934 in Sherwood, a daughter of the late Albert and Mildred (Ward) Hewes. She was employed at Ithaca Photo for 22 years and then worked as a machinist at Emerson for 18 years before retiring. She loved camping with her family and gardening.
Ruth is survived by her husband James Spicer; 10 children, Douglas (Bonnie Holbrook) Spicer, Bruce (Dee) Spicer, James (Mary) Spicer, Scott (Cheryl) Spicer, Linda (Dan) Hust, Debra (Jim) Thompson, Susan Spicer, Constance (Del) Runyon, Christine (Tom) Manheim, and Michele (Joe) Wikoff; 19 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and two sisters, Susan Clark and Martha Monroe. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Arthur Hewes.
In keeping with Ruth’s wishes, services will be private for the family.
