S. Mack, Marian

Marian Stanton Mack, 95, died peacefully at the Fahey Residence/Loretto on December 24, 2004. Born in Freeville, New York, she was the daughter of Elroy L. Stanton and Carrie B. Sevy Stanton. A graduate of the Ithaca School of Business, Marian was a dedicated secretary at Cornell for many years. She also volunteered for the Service League Shop and for Meals-on-Wheels in Ithaca. She was an active member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Ithaca, which she and her husband joined in 1935. She coordinated the hospital visitation program, served as church librarian for a decade, was an active member of the United Methodist Women and served as secretary of the Administrative Board and the Council of Ministries for several years. After moving to Syracuse, Marian attended University United Methodist Church and was a member of the Gertrude Brown Guild.

Traveling was very enjoyable for Marian and her husband. Following their retirements, the couple visited every one of the contiguous 48 states. Marian's most precious times were those spent with her husband, John, and their family. Marian and John moved to the Nottingham in Jamesville in 1995. On February 20, 2002, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. Marian moved to the Fahey Residence later in 2002.

Marian was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Walter Stanton and, in 2002, by her husband, John A. Mack.

Surviving are two daughters, Janet (Rev. Harold W.) Garman of Syracuse, Patricia (John H.) McFall of Baldwinsville, a son, J. Alan (Marsha) Mack of Plano, Texas, eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 30 at 10:00 AM in the chapel at the Cunningham Building at Loretto, 700 East Brighton Ave., Syracuse. Officiating are the Rev. Tanya Atwood-Adams and the Rev. Edwin A. Potter. A committal service will be held at a later date at the Willow Glen Cemetery in Dryden.
