Sandra J. Luoma

Sandra J. Luoma of 4093 Rabbit Run Rd., Trumansburg, passed away on Tuesday morning, November 11, 2008 at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA at the age of 54.

Born in Ithaca on March 7, 1954, Sandy was the daughter of Stephen and Adelaide (Sarsfield) Cooper. She worked at the Royal Court Restaurant in Ithaca for over 20 years, developing a second-family relationship with the owners and fellow co-workers.

Sandy's home was always inviting as she tirelessly tended the gardens on the outside and often filled the inside with smells of her delicious baking. She cherished the memories of family get-togethers and outings....any gathering was acceptable to her as long as family was at the center. For peace Sandy often crocheted, read or watched the birds.

In addition to her parents, Sandy was preceded in death by a brother-in-law Frank Jackson and a nephew Tommy Davis. She is survived by her husband Leo K. Luoma Jr. of Trumansburg; one son Tim Luoma of Trumansburg; three daughters, Mary Luoma (Curtis Locke) of Richford, Kristine Luoma of Ithaca and Carin Hodgson (Josh) of Cortland; eight grandchildren, Spencer, Devon, Jace, Kierstyn, Allen, Taryn, Ashton and Marley; four brothers, Stephen Cooper (Diane) of Bradford, Mike Cooper (Brenda) of Ovid, Larry Cooper (Carol) of Romulus and Mark Cooper of Odessa, TX; three sisters, Lynne Jackson of Ovid, Mary Davis (George) of Ovid and Dorreen Elzinga (Ron) of Traverse City, MI and many nieces and nephews.

The family will be present to receive friends on Saturday, November 15, 2008 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. A Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 pm on Saturday at the funeral home (immediately following the calling hours).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks those considering a contribution in Sandy's memory to kindly consider the 5th floor at Robert Packer Hospital where Sandy and her family received a tremendous amount of love and support throughout her illness.
