Scott L. Carl

d. July 29, 2015

Scott Lyon Carl, 55, of Trumansburg, New York, previously of Harpursville, died peacefully July 29, 2015 at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca after an extended illness.

Scott was born to Jean Rainey Carl and Myron Lyon Carl on January 8, 1960 in Cobleskill, New York. After attending high school, Scott worked for thirty years, first at the Rensselaer County Sheltered Workshop and later at Country Valley Industries in Johnson City, New York, where he retired. Scott was a kind and gentle man with a delightful sense of humor. He loved his family dearly, and they loved him in return. Scott took great pride in sharing his earnings with family and friends by treating them to dinner and purchasing holiday gifts for them.

The family thanks the staff of the ICU at Cayuga Medical Center for the expert support and compassionate care Scott received in the final days of his life. They also wish to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Franziska Racker Center for the extraordinary efforts they made on Scott’s behalf. The Racker Center welcomed him and made it possible for Scott to remain an active participant in home and community activities even as his health failed.

Scott is survived by his mother Jean Carl, of Mayfield Heights, Ohio, and by his two sisters, Susan Michael of Ashburn, Virginia and Maureen (John Walsh) Husami of Beachwood, Ohio. He is also survived by a devoted nephew, Sebastian Michael, and three loving nieces: Najla (James) Golebiewski, Margaret (Ty Tallman) Husami, and Suzanne Husami. He was predeceased by his older brother Douglas in 1952, and his father in 1980.

A private burial with graveside services will be held at Hayts Cemetery overlooking beautiful Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, New York.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sending a donation in Scott’s name to the Franziska Racker Center, an organization devoted to supporting people with disabilities. Their address is 3226 Wilkins Road, Ithaca, New York, 14850.
