Raymond Phillip Ackley, Sr., (affectionately known as "Bud" by family and friends), of 5186 Cold Springs Road, Trumansburg passed away at the Cayuga Medical Center on Monday, October 7, 2002 at the age of 64.

Born in Battle Creek, Michigan on April 24, 1938, Bud was the son of Raymond R. and Edna M. Clark Ackley.

From age 13 to 19 Bud attended Holy Ghost Seminary in Ann Arbor, Michigan in preparation for the priesthood.

Patriotism was an important part of Bud's life. He was honored to have served in the US Marine Corps from February 11, 1958 until receiving an Honorable Discharge, with the rank of Corporal, on February 10, 1962. The American Flag always flew proudly in front of Bud's home.

Bud worked on the Santa Fe Railroad before attending San Diego State University, where he earned his BA and MA. In 1968 he accepted a teaching position at the Cuyahoga Community College. In 1978 he moved to California and worked in Real Estate until 1980, at which time he accepted a position to teach the English language to Saudi Air Force Officers in Saudi Arabia. Bud entered the Real Estate Profession a second time in 1984 when he became an agent for Patterson Real Estate in Ithaca until 1989. In 1989 Bud moved his family to Trumansburg and he commuted to work at the Raymond Corporation in Greene. He enjoyed his position at the Raymond Corp. and has made many friends there over the years.

He was a member of St. James the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Trumansburg. Bud enjoyed spending time with his family, reading, fishing, working in the yard and was a dedicated Cleveland Browns fan.

Bud was preceded in death by one sister, Sonya Lees. Surviving are his devoted wife of 39 years, Marilyn A. Gilwee Ackley of Trumansburg; one son, Raymond P. (Lisa) Ackley, Jr. of Wyandott, Michigan; one daughter, Kimberley R. (Rob) Warner of Trumansburg; three grandchildren, Phoebe and Henry Warner and Griffin Ackley; one brother, Michael (Jo) Ackley of Salt Lake City, Utah and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Mass is scheduled for Saturday, October 12, 2002 at 10:00 am at the St. James Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Eugene O'Hara, OFM Cap. as celebrant. The family will receive their friends, in the church hall, immediately following the Memorial Mass.

In keeping with Bud's wishes no public calling hours have been scheduled.
