Susan J. Gorton

Susan J. Gorton of Lansing, NY passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday, October 5, 2023 at the age of 66.

Sue was born in Ithaca on January 13, 1957, a daughter of the late Carl and Ramona (nee Robinson) Emery. All who knew Sue knew her large, loving heart and what a wonderful and caring person she was. She especially showed those skills in her roles as wife, mom, and gram. A staple employee for 35+ years at Cornell, she later took her talents to the Lansing Central School District Office where she continued to make an impact.

A recent member of the Lansing Rod and Gun club, her award-winning mac and cheese and potato salad will be sorely missed at the family gatherings that she adored so much. Her presence will forever be felt off the back deck of her home, where she would take in the amazing lake view and appreciate all the birds who stopped by.

Sue is survived by her loving husband of 24 years, Ken Gorton; her children, Shane Owens and Cheyenne (Justin Woodard) Gorton; grandsons; Lakin Smith and Lane Owens; sister, Karen Ferris; many nieces, nephews, cousins, close friends and loving family. And she will be greatly missed by her furry companions, Bella and Ziva. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Brian Emery.

A memorial gathering for Sue will be held on Sunday October 15, 2023 from 12:00-3:00pm at LakeWatch Inn, 1636 E Shore Dr, Ithaca, NY 14850.
