Susan L. Smith of Trumansburg, passed away at Rochester General Hospital on Sunday, February 12, 2012 at the age of 63.

Born in Ithaca on April 20, 1948, Sue was the daughter of the late James and Dorothy (Dirillo) Burns. Early memories spent with her grandparents in Trumansburg were always cherished by Sue. She worked at Ithaca Gun Company and the Ithaca Journal. Sue was active in several local organizations serving as Past President of the Trumansburg Legion Post #770 Ladies Auxiliary, member of the Ovid VFW Post #6200 Ladies Auxiliary, and as a member of the Trumansburg Volunteer Fire Department.

She enjoyed shooting horseshoes and darts with the Ladies Auxiliary, and listening to classic rock and roll music. From time to time, Sue could be found behind the wheel of car racing at local demolition derbies.

Sue is survived by her husband, Robert “Butch” Smith of Trumansburg; four children, Lila Miller of Locke, Linda Weeks of Minnesota, Christina Weeks of Groton, and Richard Hockenberry; granddaughter, Brittany Weeks of Trumansburg and several other grandchildren; brother, James Burns Jr. of Locke; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, James Burns and a daughter, Mary Weeks.

The family will be present to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. The family invites friends to join them for a celebration of Sue’s life from 4:00 to 8:00pm on Saturday, February 18 at the American Legion Post #770, 4431 Seneca Road, Trumansburg.
