Sylvia A. Pitts

Sylvia Adriance Pitts, age 82, of 9 Midline Rd., Slaterville Springs (formerly of Sodus) passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at Hospicare following a lengthy illness.

She was born in Elmira, New York on February 6, 1926 and graduated from Elmira Free Academy. Sylvia also completed coursework at Rochester Institute of Technology. She married John E. Pitts on August 31, 1946. They enjoyed spending summers at Sodus Point where she made many good friends. In the 1970's Sylvia was active in the efforts to save Sodus Bay and the barrier bar from the effects of high water. In later years she was active in the Fountain Manor Tenant Association.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband John in 2000 and her daughter Susan McCracken in 1993. She is survived by two sons, David A. of Trumansburg and John A. of Atlanta, GA; two grandsons, Paul Stuart of Atlanta, GA and Matthew (Molly) McCracken of Chesapeake, VA; one granddaughter Holly (Stephen) Patches of Newmanstown, PA; three great-grandchildren, Morgan and Stephen Patches and Robert McCracken; one great-great-grandson Haden Edward Patches; one brother-in-law Arthur H. (Molly) Pitts of Florida and a lifelong friend Pearl Newton Rook of Newark and Sodus Point.

In keeping with Sylvia's wishes, no public calling hours or services will be scheduled.
