Sylvia U. Maatta

Sylvia U. Maatta of Montour Falls, formerly of Trumansburg passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Seneca View Skilled Nursing Facility at the age of 88.

Sylvia was born in Rochester on March 4, 1928, a daughter of the late William and Aino (Ylonen) Uitos. She worked for 25 years as a banker at First Bank of Ithaca prior to her retirement. Sylvia was a member of the Trumansburg Senior Citizens, volunteered at the Ulysses Historical Society, and was a proud member of the Finger Lakes Finns, honoring her Finnish heritage.

Sylvia is survived by two children, Jon (Connie) Maatta and Gayle Greuber; four grandchildren, Gena (Bob) Ladouceur, Kelly (David Perry) Maatta, Emileigh (Ryan Williams) Greuber, and Kevin Greuber; four great grandchildren, Anna, Sophie, and Cooper Ladouceur, and Olivia Perry; a brother, Wesley (Carol) Uitos; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Maatta; daughter, Vicki Kelley; sister, Esther Hensley; and brother, Herman Uitos.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
