Ted A. Murray, 63, of Trumansburg, died suddenly from an unexpected cardiac event on Monday, July 29, 2024.
Born in Ithaca on January 31, 1961, a son of the late Kenneth W. and Ruth (nee Copp) Murray. He was a graduate of Trumansburg High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Buffalo. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Bucci on August 4, 1984 and together they started a family in their hometown. Ted was also actively involved in his children’s sports and athletics; he was inducted into the Trumansburg Sports Hall of Fame for his celebrated athletic achievements, as well as his work with the peewee football program and Sports Boosters. He retired this past January from a 40-year career serving as the Senior Director of Operations for Compliance at Cornell University. He and Karen enjoyed cruises, seeing the rewards of his DIY projects, and summers at the cottage in Romulus.
Above all else, Ted had an endless passion for family, being an amazing Papa to his grandkids, and bringing others joy. He often showed this through his projects and an impressive level of thoughtfulness in everything he did, he always “planned accordingly”. When Ted was around there was no problem left unsolved, no need left unmet, and no drink or plate left unfilled.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Karen, his son, Tyler (Abby) Murray, and his daughter, Shauna (Michael) Defone; his adoring grandchildren, Rae and Tucker Murray and Nora Defone. Ted was preceded in death by his sister, Carol Megivern and brother, Kenny Murray.
The family will receive friends at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home on South Street in Trumansburg from 3:00 to 6:00pm on Monday, August 5, 2024.
