Thelma C. Dunham of Hudson Falls, NY passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 23, 2008 at Huntington Living Center in Waterloo, NY.
Thelma was born on August 18, 1915 in Bennington, VT, the third of four daughters born to the late Leslie and Blanche (nee French) Carrier. The sisters remained close throughout their lives. She was married to Earl S. Dunham on April 20, 1940. They made their home in Pittsfield, MA, before moving to Hudson Falls, NY in 1952 where they raised their family. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hudson Falls for more than fifty years. Following the death of her husband in 1997, she moved to Trumansburg, NY to be with her daughter, Martha.
She is survived by her children: Peter (Judy) Dunham of Ashland, MA, John (Jan) Dunham of Ghent, NY, Pamela Worden of Rockland, MA, Deborah (Jon Bagger) Dunham of Baltimore, MD, and Martha (James) Catalfamo of Trumansburg, NY; her grandchildren: Scott, Susan, and Brian Dunham; Ethan and Amy Dunham; Katherine and Andrew Worden; Marija and Justina Bagger; James, Stephen and Peter Catalfamo; her great grandchildren: Paul and Zachary Dunham; Elliot, Joel, Lindsay and Casey Dunham; and Johanna Barber; and her sister, Edith Foulds of South Burlington, VT. Her sisters, Verna (Flagg) Royston and Hazel Blanchard preceded Thelma in death.
Thelma will be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother. She was fun, strong, affectionate and able "to see the world in a grain of sand." (Blake) She maintained the love and appreciation for art, poetry and travel throughout her life.
Thelma was an active member of the church and women's group running the yearly rummage sale for seventeen years. She was awarded the church's "Woman of the Year" in 1974. She volunteered at the Hyde Museum, the hospital and for several community organizations.
The family will observe prayers of committal at the Grandview Cemetery in North Bennington, VT. A Memorial Service, to be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Hudson Falls, to celebrate the life of Thelma will be announced in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions in Thelma's name be directed to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 9 River Street, Hudson Falls, NY 12839.
