Theodore (Ted) J. Smith

February 21, 1957 — January 3, 2023

Trumansburg

Theodore (Ted) John Smith, age 65, passed away on January 3, 2023 at home in Trumansburg, NY. Born on February 21, 1957 to John and Helen Smith in Seneca Falls,NY.

Predeceased by his parents, a brother, David, of Enfield, NY and a sister, Susan Farrell of Half Moon Bay, CA, Ted is survived by two sisters, Katie (David) Coyle of St. Augustine, Fla., Julie Wrench of Fairport, NY; four brothers, Norm (Cindy) Smith, Jeff (Stephanie) Smith, Kenny Smith of Enfield and Tom Smith of Romulus, NY. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Ted loved dirt bikes and raced them for a few years including at the track on the family farm.

It is believed that if not for Ted, there wouldn't have been an Enfield Moto Park. He was a diehard Subaru car guy. He repaired and sold many through his lifetime. He found doing various carpentry jobs enjoyable. He liked wheeling and dealing with people for just about anything, cars, firewood, collectibles and such. Ted was outgoing and charming. He had numerous friendships and he was adored by many people. He was generous with the people he knew and he committed himself to caring for his brother David for as long as he was able. Ted had a lifelong interest in antiques and accumulated an impressive collection of funky stuff! When Ted was young, he said he wanted to be an Astronaut. For sure, he was up for adventure! You never knew where you might encounter him; on the basketball court, up on the hill by the big rock, at The Glen watching Formula One back in the day, on the beach on Cape Cod (kidnapped and taken there by Karen V., he said), out tending his crops, going for a swim at Treman when the park ranger was looking the other way.

Ted's circle of friends reaches far and wide. Ted's brothers and sisters extend their gratitude to Ted's "chosen family", who cared for him and looked out for him over the years. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made in his name to the charity of your choice.
