Tressie S. Murphy formerly of Trumansburg passed away at Cayuga Ridge Nursing Facility on Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at the age of 89.

Tressie was born in Clearfield, Pennsylvania on March 11, 1925, a daughter of the late Frank and Cora (Shaw) Shugarts. After graduating from Clearfield High School, she was recruited to travel to Washington, DC to work for the FBI. While working in Washington, Tressie met her husband, Lewis Murphy. The couple moved to the Trumansburg area and Tressie took a job at NCR in Ithaca. She worked there for many years as an inspector before retiring.

She found great joy in a number of activities including volunteering at the Gemm Shop, traveling to yard sales, completing crossword puzzles, selling Avon, and cheering on the Dodgers and NY Giants. Most of all Tressie enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and socializing with family and friends.

Tressie is survived by four children, Linda Murphy of Trumansburg, Timothy (Tina) Murphy of Trumansburg, Erin (Doug) Nichols of Owego, and Eric (Karen) Murphy of Trumansburg; six grandchildren, Rebecca (Robert Fish) Murphy, Sabrina Murphy, Nicole Nichols, Hannah and Sarah Murphy, and Devin Murphy; six great grandchildren, Dylan, Emily, and Lilly Murphy, Maia, Dmitri, and Donovan Fish; brother, Max Shugarts of Clearfield; close friend, Muriel Graber; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Tressie was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Murphy in 2004; son Lewis Gilbert Murphy II; brother, Carl Shugarts; and a sister, Ruth Soltis.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, August 21, 2014 in Grove Cemetery in Trumansburg.
