V. Ganoung, Ruth

d. September 1, 2002

Ruth Virginia Ganoung of 3667 County Road #139, Ovid passed away at the Cayuga Medical Center on Sunday, September 1, 2002 at the age of 66.

Born in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania on April 27, 1936, Ruth was the daughter of George Jacob Wertz, Sr. and Fay Catherine Weary Wertz.

Shortly after her 1954 graduation from the Mechanicsburg High School, Ruth married Carl Albert Ganoung. For nearly 47 years the couple shared many interests including canoeing and camping in the Adirondacks. It was there that Ruth could relax and enjoy, with great admiration, the sights and sounds of the Loon.

She also found comfort in sewing, making crafts, cooking and arranging flowers. The most memorable times for Ruth were those spent with family as she was always interested in the activities and events in their lives. Ruth's caring heart and genuine concern for others will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Ruth was a cook for over 20 years with the South Seneca School District. Originally she worked in the Interlaken school and in later years in Ovid, retiring in 1987. She was an active member of the Interlaken Reformed Church and was a member of the Women's Group there. Ruth was also a member of the Garden Club and the Interlaken American Legion Post #462 Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Merle C. Wertz. Ruth is survived by her devoted husband, Carl Albert Ganoung of Interlaken; one son, Steven W. (Carol) Ganoung, Sr. of North Syracuse; two daughters, Cynthia L. (Mark) Stilwell of Trumansburg and Mary Ann (Thomas) Williams of Topeka, KS; six grandchildren, Steven, Jr., Jessica, Amber, Joseph, Nicholas and Mohammed; one sister, Naomi (Gene) Womer of Landisburg, PA; one brother, George J. (Betty) Wertz, Jr. of Mechanicsburg, PA and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the Interlaken Reformed Church on Thursday, September 5, 2002 at 11:00 am with the Rev. Michael J. Hooker officiating. Prayers of committal will follow at the Lake View Cemetery in Interlaken.

The family will be present to receive their friends at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St, Trumansburg on Wednesday from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
