Harold W. Suess, 60, of 4093 W. Seneca Rd., Trumansburg, passed away Thursday, February 15, 2007, at the Cayuga Medical Center in Ithaca.
Born in Brunswick, MO on February 27, 1946, he was the son of the late Harold F. A. and Mary Katherine (Stivers) Suess.
Harold spent twenty two years as a SeaBee with the United States Navy. His Naval career took him and his family to many different communities over the years, and after retiring in 1990, Trumansburg became home. Harold was a former dispatcher with the New York State Park Police in Trumansburg.
With his broad range of abilities, interests, and his "Can Do" attitude, Harold contributed countless hours to many clubs and organizations during his lifetime. With a bachelor's degree in fire science, he devoted over thirty years service to various fire departments as a volunteer firefighter and EMT.
Harold was a member of the American Legion, Trumansburg Rifle & Pistol Club, NRA, and a former member of the Trumansburg Fire Department.
He also enjoyed participating in Boy Scouts, firearm competitions, woodworking and furniture building, reading, playing cards, having coffee and sharing laughter with his family and friends.
Harold is survived by his wife, Lorraine "Lanie" Suess; his three sons, Christon "Chris" Suess of Bergenfield, NJ, Harold C. "Chuck" (Cama) Suess of Kansas City, MO, and Erik M. (Suzanne) Suess of Trumansburg; two sisters, Carol (Rex) Stevens of Kansas City, MO, and Debbie Blasiar of Noble, OK; five grandchildren, two nieces and three nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harold's name may be directed to the Trumansburg Fire Department, 74 W. Main St., Trumansburg, NY 14886.
The family will be present to receive friends from 2:00-5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2007 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South St., Trumansburg. Funeral Services, with full military honors, will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 19, 2007, at the First Baptist Church, 4443 E. Seneca Rd., Trumansburg, with the Rev. Pete Hood officiating. Burial will be in Grove Cemetery. A reception for family and friends will follow at The American Legion Post 770, 4431 East Seneca Rd., Trumansburg.
