William P. Hogan

January 15, 1933 — May 13, 2021

Trumansburg

William Patrick Hogan was born January 15th, 1933 in Elmira, NY to Agnes Ryan Hogan and James Joseph Hogan. He graduated from South Side High School in 1951 and entered the US Navy the next day. He served from 1951-1955 and was honorably discharged. He then went to work at the New York Telephone Company as a lineman, installer, and communications consultant. He retired in 1988 after 33 years.

He married Joan Connelly, the love of his life and best friend in 1959. They built their dream home in Trumansburg in 1968. They moved in on February 15th, 1969 and their fifth child was born February 25th. Together Bill and Joan built a beautiful life. The following year the Trumansburg Golf Course opened near by and Bill became an avid golfer, spending good times with friends on the course. He built his own wood working shop and fulfilled his dream of being retired for as long as he worked. He spent countless hours building all kinds of dining room tables, armoires, coffee tables, end tables, desks, bookshelves and more for his children, grandchildren, friends, and church. He was an avid gardener, tending fruit trees, and growing vegetables, raspberries, blueberries, and making apple cider with his home-made cider press. He was a dedicated member of Saint James Church and served on the parish council and as an usher. He and his wife, Joan also taught Pre-Cana classes.  Bill loved the village of Trumansburg and actively served the community.  He served as the Supervisor of the Town of Ulysses, was a member of the Rotary and volunteered at the local Food Bank.

He loved to watch Ithaca College football and he rarely missed a home game. In their retirement, he and Joan travelled to Hawaii, France, Kenya, and Uganda as well as a memorable cross-country trip with dear friends.  Bill was regarded by all who knew him as a good man. He was greatly loved and widely respected for his kindness, sense of humor, and loyalty to his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife Joan of 62 years, his five children Matthew (Karen), Martin (Jeanne), Mary Ellen (Tony) Lenhart, Timothy (Angela), Katie (Sep Farah), and his nine grandchildren Jon (Shaina), April (Michael Pocius and great grandson Grant), Jessica (Christian Ferrin) Hogan, Connor Hogan, Kevin Lenhart, Keith (Cierra) Lenhart, Megan and Emma Hogan, and Kayhaan Farah. He is also survived by his sister Mary Ann Kasper. He was predeceased by his brother Edward, sister Therese Calabrese, and his granddaughter Abigail.
