William E. "Bill" Ryan Jr., age 81, of Trumansburg, NY passed away with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.
Bill was born February 13, 1935 in Oneida, a son of the late William E. and Mildred A. Ryan. As a child he loved spending his summers on the family farm and often talked about those days. After graduating from Utica Free Academy, he attended Bentley College earning an accounting degree. Bill honorably served his country in the United States Army as an aviation mechanic. In 1968, Bill moved his family to Ithaca taking a position at Babcock Industries as Vice President and Comptroller. In 1983, he moved to Rochester, MN taking a position at Babcock Swine. He worked with the children of Madison County ARC prior to his retirement.
Bill loved spending time at his hunting camp in the Adirondacks. He was proud of his Irish heritage and fulfilled his dreams with a trip to Ireland with his sister. He was a past member of the Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He was known for his countless jokes and dry humor. Bill loved his family and held a special place in his heart for each of his grandchildren.
Bill is survived by four children, Patricia Hall (Gilbert Nelson), William Ryan III, Karyn (Richard) Marion, and Linda (David) Lanning; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; two sisters, Marilyn Dealing and Mildred (Donald) Hammond; a sister in law, Shirley Ryan; and many nieces and nephews. His brother John Ryan precedes him.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30am on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at St. James Catholic Church, 17 Whig Street, Trumansburg. Prayers of Committal and Military Honors will be held in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Waterville the following day.
