JOHN "JOCK" YOUELL LAMBERT JR.
LANSING - John Y. Lambert Jr., 78, of 5 Highgate Circle, Village of Lansing, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 3, 2004 following an accidental fall at home. He was born on October 23, 1925 in Manlius, NY, the son of the late John Y. Sr. and Clarissa G. Lambert.
Jock graduated from Pebble Hill School and Syracuse University where he was a member of Delta Upsilon fraternity. His education was interrupted while serving as a medic in the U.S. Army in WWII. He followed his dad into the insurance business with The Glens Falls Insurance Company taking assignments in the Albany area and later in New Jersey. He moved to Ithaca in 1960, joining the H.A. Carey Co. (Carey-McKinney Group) where he was a partner until his retirement in 1987. Jock invested time and energy as a Hospicare board member and as a member of the Congregational Church. He enjoyed many years of friendship with others in the community as a Yacht Club, Country Club, and City Club member.
Jock was a loving husband, father, and grandfather in a large extended family. He was an avid reader, and also loved traveling, woodworking, and spending time with his many friends. In the past he enjoyed tennis, golf, and sailing with his crewmates on the "L'MOR." He was a longtime sports enthusiast, especially following the Syracuse Orangemen and regularly attending Cornell Hockey and Football games.
Jock is survived by his wife Kit Lambert with whom he recently celebrated a 30th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by his former wife Constance C. Lambert of Ithaca and his children John (Robin Rogers) Y. Lambert 111 of Ithaca, James (Diana) C. Lambert of Annapolis MD, Stephen (Lisa) G. Lambert of Greensboro NC, Suzanne (John) Lambert Ault of Riviera Beach FL, stepchildren Victoria (Jon Bradley) Boynton of Ithaca, Rebecca (Jeffrey) Lee Norton of Bremen Maine, Ben (Penny) Boynton of Ithaca, and Elizabeth (Robert) Boynton Thomas of Trumansburg. He is also survived by his nineteen grandchildren: Joe, Bobby, Richard, Lizzy, Laura, Jack, Christopher, Greg, Carrie, Jack, Laura, Matthew, Pheobe, Rachel, Seneca, Shiloh, Hannah, Will, and Gavin.
He was predeceased by his beloved sister Ann Lambert Hunter.
A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Jock's life at the First Congregational Church, Highland Rd., Ithaca on Friday, January 9, 2004 at 2:30 pm.
