Amanda Nivison, lifelong resident of Trumansburg, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at the age of 47.
Amanda was born on October 12, 1976, a daughter to Ronnie Nivison and Jeanne (Rogers) Dorward.
Amanda was raised in Trumansburg and spent her adult life in the area. In her youth she was an active member of Trumansburg United Methodist Church youth group, a proud member of Girl Scouts and a local babysitter that included many of the children who attended Jeanne’s Daycare.
Amanda was the proud owner of Rent-a-Flick in Trumansburg for over a decade, taking pride that it was one of the very last movie stores to close in the state. She truly cared about each person who walked through that door, knowing every customer by name, their kids and what their movie preference was. It was a personal experience to rent from Amanda and she maintained many of those friendships long after the store closed.
Following Rent-a-Flick, Amanda went on to work as a customer service agent with William’s Insurance Agency. She adored her work family and a new group of folks who walked through the door; Amanda loved helping people!
When Amanda was not at work, she was busy being a world class auntie, sister, daughter, and friend; we must not forget her amazing crafting abilities. Amanda took on the care of her mom full time while moving back into her childhood home. Together they were “M & M”, mom and Mandy; a duo that was hilarious, nurturing and a constant companion to each other. Amanda was also actively involved in the lives of her nieces and nephews; present for every performance or graduation, the caregiver on sick or snow days…the Auntie who was there at a moment's notice, giving every ounce of herself.
Amanda is survived by her mother, Jeanne Dorward; two sisters, Melissa (David) Dorward-Bauman and Kate (Andy) King; stepfather, Tim Dorward; nieces and nephews, Ella and Sofi Mann, Bria Bauman, and Jack and Jacob King; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents (Dorward) in the Nivison, Dorward, and Rogers families. She was preceded in death by her father, Ronnie Nivison in 2019, and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
The family will be present from 2:00 to 4:00pm on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. Burial will be held privately for the family in the Spring.
